We have an elderly dog 19yrs of age who is rapidly fading. We are not well of but can afford to pay a vet but am also unable to transport our dog.
To have our dog put to sleep by a vet ,what is the cost to have it done at our home ?that way we can keep him in his own enviroment and be with him Thankyou

So sorry for your problems, but II do understand. Che my first GSD hated going to the vets, and when the time came to help him on his way I had the vet come to house. This was in 1990 and tho I cann't remember the exact call out bu I think it was about 10, so what it will be now I dont Know. I do know it was worth it, I would have hated having my last thoughts of a wonderful friend being taking him somewhere he hated for that reason
Oh my goodness.
I am so sorry to hear that your dog is ill. I can understand it must be heartbreaking for you to have to make this decision, but sometimes it is the kindest thing we can do for our animals.
I would call the Vet and ask just what they would charge. Fees vary slightly with Vets but I would guess it may be between 50 and 100.
Thinking of you. x

So sorry caskin. A couple of years ago our vet came out to my daughter in laws dog. The bill to put to sleep, arrange cremation and the return of ashes was 200.00. Maybe your dog will do what our old terrier did in June, he just fell asleep one night and never woke up in the morning.
Whatever you decide to do I am sure that many abers will be thinking of you.
My vet charges 60 pounds call out fee, presumably the injection will be around 10 pounds on top of that. Of course if you call them out of hours it will be far more expensive.

Vets will only usually come out the following day (not the same day) - so you have to let them know as soon as possible - sometimes it is possible for the dog to be sedated (by a tablet) before the vet arrives.

Also beware - even if your dog dies at home naturally if you call the vet to come out and collect the body they will still charge 60 pounds call out fee.

If the dog is not in pain and you can let him die naturally it is usually very peaceful. My last girl (12) died at home - she stopped eating and drinking for three days. I took her to the vet and they gave her an injection to stimulate her appetite, but the following morning at approx. 5 am she stretched and yawned and was dead. Very quick and totally painless - wonderful for her but devastating for me!

Whatever you do it will be the right thing for everyone. Go with your heart.

Take care.

I really think the answer to the last reply is that he looked after us.....why is it that you only realise how much you love someone when they are gone????
Its over now so lets close it ,all of you guys have been a great comfort.....thank you for that
Im really sorry for you loss too. Im crying myself! I hope you and your wife are coping as well as you can and know that Tuppence is in an ultimately better place. They can never be replaced, When our dog had to go it broke our hearts too. I said id never have another dog again, as it hurt so bad, but its the only thing that got me through it, managing to get another dog a few years later. THINKING OF YOU AND JACQUI XXXX
Hi - I am sorry to hear about Tuppy, it is always sad when someone who was loved so much dies.

I lost my old cat last year, it was upsetting but I was relieved as well. The uncertainty of whether they are in pain or suffering is terrible to bear.

Best wishes to both of you.

Susan
My heart goes out to you both.
It is very distressing to lose a part of your family.
You both did the kindest thing you could ever do for Tuppence.
He will now be in Rainbow Bridge.
It is true, sometimes they DO look after us.
Hugs. xxx
I do feel for you as will any pet lover who has been in that position.
You can't replace the love and the affection but you have to remember that you also gave him a good life and were there for him at the end.
My thoughts are with you
