Following a discussion with Mr Boo (oh the level of our intelligence is stunning!), we got talking whether it was possible to have a house tortoise? And if it was, would they still hibernate?

I say no, they wouldn't as being in a warmish environment the whole year, but he reckons they would.

I'd appreciate replies ASAP too, as the 'loser' is going to Greggs for lunch.

Thanks!

I am 95% certain that they wouldn't hibernate as I have read that sickly tortoises should be kept indoors to stop them hibernating (tortoises are quite likely to die in hibernation unless they are fit).

I have known a friend who successfully kept an indoor tortoise and he made a lovely pet. They are actually quite affectionate believe it or not!!

Yay, that'll do for me LoftyLottie, Mr Boo is off to Greggs, fancy a sausage roll? Lol.

I've always fancied having a tortoise as a pet, I think they're adorable.
Bloo I would love a sausage roll, but have just eaten two cheese and marmite pastry things from tescos and a big cream cake!
'Bloo' Isn't that something you clean the loo with!!

Sorry!
I agree- sickly tortoises shoud not be hibernated. As regards permanent non-hibernation there is disagreement whether never allowing hibernation affects the health of creatures designed to hibernate. (Lots of hibernate in that sentence!!) My sister has a pair of tortoises that live in the garden and lay eggs each year. Generally gets three or four young each year and they are definitley not allowed to hibernate til they are around three years old-til they have put on enough body weight to survive a long kip.
I have no idea but I definitely agree if there is a sausage roll in it for me.
Heya B00 :D
