I have just found a rather large wasp crawling around inside an uplighter ceiling shade in my daughters bedroom. I thought that by this time of year surely there would be no wasps around? Wondering where it came from to as the window wasn't open in the room. Hope to gawd I don't have a nest or something somewhere. Can anyone enlighten me as to whether it's usual to see wasps at this time of year?
It is unusual to still find a wasp this time of year. However it would not be un heard of. Wasps when they are dying out are very big and move much slower so they look more terrifying i think anyway. It is when they die out that they become their most aggressive and more likely to sting!!
It`s possibly a queen wasp looking for somewhere nice and warm to start her new nest next year so KILL THE F******G thing before it finds a nice little des res
Like shylock, I think it's a queen, looking for somewhere to hibernate. Don't kill her, though - try & catch her and put her in a shed or out-house, where she can hibernate. She'll wake up in the spring & go somewhere to build a nest (hopefully not in your house!). remember, wasps eat all the nasty little bugs that eat our plants, so basically, wasps are good!!
We had several huge wasps about this time of year a few years back. Never did find source though did have a huge nest the following summer we had to get rid off.
Might not be a queen kleiber, we've been getting sluggish normal sized wasps in the house for the last couple of months, they all seem to be on their last legs, but just keep appearing upstairs, hubby has checked the attic (we had a huge nest there a few years back) but couldn't find anything, just hope the queen isn't hibernating in the house somewhere!
