I have a very overactive collie, who refuses to go outside to 'go'. No matter how much touble she gets in (or how much we ignore her) she just wees and poos all over the place. She will even go right in front of us, rather than sneaks away to do it, which is even more annoying! Anyone know what will stop it, or failing that, what will bring the stains out of the carpet???

First of all make sure she is walked for an hour or more. Collies are very bright and need mental stimulation too. Mine love finding small biscuits or toys after being left out of the room. Have you taught her what "out" means? Once she knows this she should go outside if you say out to her. What a nightmare for you. There is also a possibility that this is a attention seeking behaviour. Ignore her when she does it and use a trowel to pick up the poo and take it outside. Show her. We use"clean" as a command for our collies. Have you taken her to the vets maybe there is something physical going on? Good luck

Hi, she gets more exercise that even she needs, as I know what trouble active dogs can be, and she certainly knows what's expected of her, but simply refuses to comply. Often enough we've kicked her outside 'just in case' only for her to come inside and do it on the carpet straight away. It's a hardfaced brat lol.

The trick is not to 'kick her outside' just in case, you have to go out with her and wait for her to 'go' give her plenty of praise then go back inside, teach her to pee/poo on command, my 4 dogs all do, I say go wee wee's and they dutifully go and do what they are told to do and if they are being shut inside for the night then I stay outside with them and 9 times out of 10 they will poo as well, I have trained all my dogs to do this, wait until your dog pees outside and just as she performs say 'go wee wee's, good girl', she's a Collie she will learn very quickly, but take her out until you are quite certain that she will perform without you being there, I generally only go out with mine last thing at night as they are all over 2 years old, but on occasion I will reinforce it during the day as well.

It sounds as if you don't like her too much. When you say she 'refuses to go outside' ,do you go with her? Collies are outside working dogs, often more intelligent than their owners. It seems as if you are trying to say she does it deliberately - she does not. All she needs is sustained love, training and reward. Go outside with her, stay with her, encourage her with key words, and PRAISE her when she gets it right. Simple, really.

I agree with most of the above. It is essential that you go out with your dog. Do not just leave her and hope for the best. Is it possible that as a puppy she was once frightened outside? Something like a firework going off just as she was about to 'perform'? Like Illyria's my dog, also a collie, goes on command. All I have to say is, "Do you want to go out for a wee?" If she does she goes straight to the door. If she does not she carries on with whatever she is doing. In five years she has never made a mistake. Give her lots of love and tlc and be patient!
