i rescued 2 deaf cats about 3 years ago, one male one female. i was told that both cats had been spayed. up untll a few months they have always stayed indoors, now when my female cat comes in she is bringing things like leaves and small bits of paper that she drops on the floor then stands and cries over them. Why is she doing this? is there something wrong with her. Jayne

I doubt if there is anything wrong. She cats often do this - I had a cat who, for years, regularly took this furry ball toy up stairs and would then sit with it and miaow. A friend also had a cat who used to bring in strange objects and cry over them. You could always ask a vet to check that she isn't pregnant but it seems fairly normal behaviour.
I must admit I have not come across your problem before. The reason I have popped onto your thread is because i have just acquired a deaf rescue kitten(7 months)....and am wondering if you can offer me any advice. I am surprised you are able to let yours outside-I hope your garden is very secure.

My cats stayed in for almost 3 years, on the odd occasion they have escaped and i have spent hours looking for them. Even though they are deaf they "hear" through vibration and know if anyone or any thing is near by. If your cat is content to stay indoors then fine, but as he gets older he may want to explore the outside. Does your cat have odd coloured eyes? one of mine has a blue and a green eye, shes the odd eyed white, while the other has two green eyes.
About 3 years ago my friend and I found 4 kittens in her garden shed. I took 1 and so did she. We also placed the other 2. The cat she took is deaf. He has beautiful blue eyes. Her vet said this is common among deaf animals. Hers goes outside occasionaly, but only with either their pug or the other cat. He sticks close.
Hi,mijaney-mine has greenish eyes with blue flecks. The deafness gene in cats is connected to the gene for blue eyes....so your cat may be deaf only in the ear on the same side as his blue eye. When I rehomed mine last week-it was with the understanding that he would never go out.Do yours 'talk' a lot......he is constantly shouting!-lol..always has something to say. :-)
