how many leaves on a tree?

How many leaves are there on a tree? I'm thinking specifically of a London Plane tree about 30 feet tall.

if your thinking of the same tree i am, then at last count 7.15 this morning there was 35,987 no no hang on i think i can see something falling yes 35,986

Bit of a tangent, but i remember in the late 70's/early 80's, Norris McWhirter being stumped by the question "what type of tree has the most leaves". It's the only time I saw him at a loss. For some reason it registered in my 10 year old brain and has stayed with me ever since.
