I heard a terrible screech coming from the corner of the garden & found a cat cornering a frog (who I quickly liberated into a safe place) It wasn't a noise coming from the cat...could it have been from the frog? I didn't know they screamed, or am I going off my rocker/ (answer not required for that question!!)

Yes, they do squeal, and often quite loudly. Be warned, the other ploy they use is to play dead - cat brought in immobile frog, lost interest, I picked up "dead" frog, who promptly opened an eye and tried to hop off my hand!
yes both frogs and toads can produce a screech!
They also have horrible bitter tasting skin to stop cats and things from actually sinking their teeth in! My cat used to just pad it so it would jump then he'd chase it, pad it, etc :)
In UK it's just toads which taste horrid. This is supposed to be a way of telling toad from frog tadpoles -- pop them in your mouth for a moment. They're not harmed, and the toad ones taste worse. I've never tried it...
