Why has my normally sedate beardie suddenly started running around his viv, desperate to get out. He spends hours scratching at the glass and the sides, and i am afraid he's going to injure himself.

Is the temperature ok ?
Is there any poo in the viv ?
Are there any uneaten crickets in the viv ?

It is normal for beardies to scratch at the glass, mine used to do it all the time. It was just his way of asking to be let out for exercise or a cuddle.
Get him out for a cuddle. Bless him!

yeah he has been pooing o.k and the temp is in the 90's. Everything is always eaten within seconds of going in the viv. i did wonder if it was because he was getting hungrier as the daylight hours creep up, and have fed him more locusts, but have noticed his tail has got decidedly fat. We have been feeding him approx 8 -10 locusts a day.
Without wishing to make this appear sexist (!) are you female, and if so could it possibly be that he has reached the time of his life when he is looking for a partner, as I understand that particularly at certain 'times of the month' this type of animal becomes very animated. They are able to easily detect a female in heat and can become quite dangerous if allowed contact. Its not only reptiles, I think kangaroos do it too!
i think hes bored or too hot,try putting it in the bath for a swim or outside in a shallow paddling pool but you have to watch them and water not too deep.try misting or putting bowl of water in viv,but they do need company and affection daily.
has anything helped ?
