Help!! Flossy is driving me nuts and I am worried.

Hi

You may remember we have recently adopted Flossy, a stray that has recently lost her kittens,

She has settled in well. She goes out, comes home, eats well sleeps well.. BUT...

During the day she prowls round the house miaowwing and crying... I play with her, she gets lots of fuss and she seems outwardly healthy.

I am worried that she is bored, I cant sit and play with her for 6 hours constantly and I am trying to revise for an important exam on Monday!!!

Do you think she may be looking for her kittens? or is her behaviour normal??

Would it help to get another cat for her to play with. Maybe she wants some company of the cat kind?

It sounds to me like she is looking for her kittens, how long is it since she lost them?

She may well still be looking for her kittens. I remember your other post and it wasn't that long ago that she lost them. She will settle down. Poor little thing.

She may or may not like a companion. Cats are like people they either like or dislike other cats. They will always end up accepting another cat, but not necessarily interacting with it!

Hi All and thanks for your replies.

It is 5 weeks since she lost her kittens. She tries to get into all the bedrooms ( I keep my 2 youngest daughters doors closed as they are mildly allergic) she cries outside their doors and then when she is in mine and my eldest daughters rooms she seems to be looking for something, getting herself in to mischief by climbing onto/into/behind cupboards.


I spend lots of time with her and, she is free to come and go as she pleases as I have been leaving the door open during the day.


She is asleep now!!! best get back to my revision ( Law finals!!)

It might be an idea to phone your vet or the Cats Protection League about Flossie. If it is due to her losing her kittens, then perhaps her hormones are all over the place. She may need some sort of medication to help her. Just an idea. Is she still producing milk?

Good luck with those final exams Jo. I often think it would be so much better if exams were scheduled for the winter. It would be so much easier for revision purposes and who feels comfortable sitting an exam on a boiling hot day, whilst perhaps suffering from hay fever.

One of my cats always meows and scratches outside closed doors, I think it's just the pure awkwardness of wanting to get through that particular door just because it is closed!! LOL

She may still be missing her kittens a bit, it takes a while for them to get over something like that. There are a few things that I suggest you try.

1.If you have some small soft toys that you can spare, try putting a couple in her bed, as a sort of substitute kitten.
2. At vets you can buy a plug in thing that puts something into the air that naturally helps a cat to relax. They advertise them a lot around bonfire night.
3. Try not to give her too much attention when she meows. I know it's hard, but you are teaching her that if she wants to get attention all the time then she just has to make a fuss and you will come running.
4. If she has been inside for some time she may be looking for a toilet, so try investing in one of these indoor litter trays with a roof and a door(keeps the smell in).
5. I know this is an obvious one, but, make sure she always has plenty of water to drink available. Cats tend to like cold fresh water, so the more times you can change the water each day, the better.
