Injured ? Bird

Hi, I have a wood pigeon in my garage where I have left it food and water. It has been hanging around the house for about 5 days but cannot fly but keeps returning to the same area. I'm afraid of my cats killing it so have put it in the garage for safety. It is a juvenile so I'm hoping it will gain strength shortly and fly off but I don't know.
Any suggestions on what I should do?

suggest you take it to a wildlife sanctury there is usually one in every area

Is is very young? It might have been waiting for it's parents to come back. I was once told not to move young birds because of this.

But saying that, if you have cats, you probably did the right thing! x x

Not very young i.e. it's quite big but it's colouring suggests it is young. You could be right about waiting for it's parents because it keeps returning to almost exactly the same spot even though it runs off evert time I open the front door plus my cat has chased it across the road but it still returned. Will probably feed it for a few days then put it on the roof if I can't think of anything else.
Wish I wasn't so concientious about these things :-)

Is it practtical to put it back where you found it and to keep the cats in?

It actually sits either in ours or next doors front garden and they have a cat too so not really unfortunately! I could put it on my 1st floor roof which I probably will in a day or so (i've tried this before but it jumped off after I opened a bedroom window).

I would do as sas200 suggests and take it to a wildlife sanctury or at least give them a ring, they will probably come and pick it up.

I agree with the wildlife sanctuary. Don't bother with the RSPCA. I had the same situation about 10 years ago and rang the RSPCA. The pigeon was ok in my garage and took feed, but the RSPCA Inspector was so rough with him the pigeon died of shock in his hands.

Mailed MartinMere who responded to say I should continue what I am doing or take it to a vet! ~Gonna continue for another day then probably put it on my 1st florr roof on Sunday in the hope it will fly off and live happily ever after. It is feeding, mealworm and sunflower seeds plus I boiled some sweetcorn for it tonight but looks very sad.

Its not a wood pigeon......its HARI KARI......and realised it cant cope with urban living. Drive it out into the countryside.

I live about 30 meters from the Pinewoods in Freshfield so I don't think that's the answer :-)

Went in to the garage with the plan to release the pigeon into the Pinewoods tonight and it was dead (boo hoo). Very sad :-(
