Is there something other that Metronidazole that my vet could prescribe for my cat's vomiting ? He won't go near the food with Metronidazole on it -I believe it is very bitter. And why don't pharmaceutical companies, knowing this, give the tablets a better flavour? I would probably end up fingerless if I attempt to put a tablet into my cat's mouth by the way ....

I used to mash this stuff up for my cat in tinned tuna. She used to go crazy for tuna so a tablet in half a can at teatime went down without a problem.

Just the tuna in brine that you'd buy for your sndwiches. It's got a strong smell and taste so masks the medication better.

Thanks Tracie, but unfortunately although my cat loves tuna, he keeps vomiting with things like Felix which are a bit rich for him, the vet said he can't have tuna until his tummy calms down -- only fish and chicken at the moment which are a bit bland.
Try getting one of those syringes which you can get from the chemist to give babies cough medicine etc. Try crushing the tablet and mixing it with a little bit of the 'juice' that comes out to a tin of tuna in one of those syringes. The smell will still be strong and if you can get the cat interested you might be able to feed it from the syringe and get the medication in.

Or try it in a smaller amount ot tuna - a teaspoonful. I would think that if a little bit of tuna gets the meds into your cat it's got to be better for it even though it's a bit rich.
my old dog used to get vomiting probs and the vet used to give an injection that lasted for 48 hours...maybe worth asking about?
