I am worried about a dog in danger ?

A delightful little Jack Russel Terrier is wandering around and crossing an extremely busy road on its own.
The owners are professional people who are not at home during the day.
Their cleaner was told to let it wander around if it wanted.
I have returned it on more than one occasion and this time told the cleaner that I will be reporting it and my concerns for its welfare.
Having now said that who should I contact ?

Your local dog warden, I think their number can be got by your local council office.

Some people just don't deserve pets do they?

Sorry to hijack your thread but we have a similar issue. We have a local dog whose owners don't seem bothered about it. It seems a friendly enough dog but it spends most of its time wandering about the streets. One of my neighbours sometimes feeds it as she has a dog of her own.

I checked its collar one day but there were no details on there. I spoke to the council about it as I thought it was very neglectful of the owners, but they said if I didn't know who owned it / where they lived there was nothing they could do?

I only know that it lives in a small cul-de-sac of maybe 6 or 7 houses, but I don't know which of the houses it lives in. Surely just a cursory drive around the area would enable them to pick up the dog, or knocking on 6 house doors couldn't be that difficult? I would not want the owners to know I've reported them, otherwise I'd knock on myself. Some people around our area I wouldn't want to mess with, I have my family to think about.

That's typical of the RSPCA, they only want to know when they're on the television!

Tell police it chases cars/people/children.....they'll run it into dog pound/kennels and a fine (paid into police) will be due before owners collect their dog.

Or put an advert in pet-shop or Admart to sell to more appreciative owner.

Since earlier this year stray dogs are no longer the responsibility of the police. The local council now has to take responsibility, so contact them and ask to be put in touch with the dog warden, although if you catch the dog yourself you will stand a better chance of getting the dog warden to come out and collect it. He will then put the dog in the kennels they use and the owners will have to pay to collect it. If it happens more than once they may charge more for subsequent collection.
