Kitten washing her paws

I posted on another thread about how cute it was that my kitten - now coming up to 4 months old - washes her paws in her water bowl after visiting the litter tray. Now she does it all the time and is getting water everywhere - i gave her one of those non spill bowls, but she is constantly splattering water everywhere as she attempts to get all 4 paws in at times - she is also leaving soggy wet foot prints everywhere and is forever running out of water. Anyone any ideas? Do you think she would manage a water bottle like rabbits have?

aah bless... I think that is sweet! perhaps she was a human in a former life!!!! you could maybe put her bowl on a towel.... and make sure you change water daily!!!! Ewww.. pooey water yuk!

oh.. and no I dont think she would do a water bottle like rabbits have.. since a cats tongue is not designed to suck like that.. but to lick.. the rough texture of the tongue picks up minute droplets of water as she licks the bowl... You may be able to get something that automatically tops the water up - or do what I do and have a few water bowls around the house!

Just leave her a bar of soap next to her water bowl annie and a nice little towel. She sounds very fastidious.

My cat will only drink out of a glass on the kitchen windowsill - perhaps kittie might like to do the same :o)

Thanks guys - I have to change (or rather refill) her water about 4 times a day - I am concerned that she runs out while we are out. My OH would go mad if he thought she has been up on the kitchen units loftie - we already go through a mountain of antibac - I guess the kitten takes after him! Does the glass have to be best crystal??

She had a great time using the table as a skating rink (think bambi) the other day just as he had finished washing it I didn't have the heart to tell her off - I just rewashed it after she got off - I think that she likes getting her feet wet - maybe I should leave her a bath.

I'll have a look to see if I can find something to top up the water automatically.

Aw, cute!! My little Mischa has taken after my other cats and drinks out of a vase that I leave for them on the place where they eat (next to the sink - if I left it on the floor, the dogs would nick their food!!). Problem is, she's discovered that it's great fun to splash the water about (with her one front leg!!). She makes a he** of a mess, but I forgive her!! (Don't know about the other girls, though - they hate wet feet!!!) K xx

Aww they all have their funny habits don't they? - that drinking fountain looks good, but I don't leave anything switched on when I am not in the house, so maybe not practical for me - Lucy is now lying half on the keyboard licking her paws dry!!!!

Get an agent and put her on tv to advertise soap or something. Arthur made a fortune eating with his paws. What a clever cat you have!!

Maybe I should sandmaster, get back some of the money that she has cost me so far! We picked the boldest kitten in the litter as we didn't want one that spent all its time hiding under the bed - perhaps that was a mistake - at 6 and half weeks, she walked into the house completely unfazed with her tail in the air as if she owned it and has never changed despite being a pretty small cat. If any of the kids annoy her, she just waits until they aren't looking then divebombs them in revenge. She has now realised that running up my bare legs using her claws as crampons does not get her any rewards! She has however never hissed or spat at anybody and is getting better at using velvet paws when playing.

Oh Annie, we did the same thing - picked the boldest one in the litter. She has always been a constant source of amusement - although she verges on hyperactive. She provides more entertainment than a television ever could (but has also broken more things in our home than you can imagine!)

No breakages so far LoftieLottie, well apart from some of the kids lego constructions - she loves playing with their lego - the first thing she does when released from the playroom downstairs is to head up to the boys bedroom to play lego! My husband recons she wont live long though as she is not scared of anything! I was kind of hoping that she would calm down soon, but doesn't sound likely from your experience!

My cat is 7, going on 8, and she hasn't calmed down - well perhaps a little, she does seem to sleep a bit more than she did. Only last night she damaged a treasured ornament whilst leaping around our bedroom in the early hours. We can't shut her out of any rooms 'cos she bangs and rattles the doors and wakes up the whole household.

We love her dearly though!

Had to smile at the antics of your two, annie and LoftyLottie!! Cleo knocks on K. Jnr's bedroom door at night to be let in and then she keeps him awake for hours, just playing and purring. When he eventually gets to sleep, she bangs on the door again, to be let out (is she bored?) and so wakes him up again! Mischa (the 3-legged wonder) launched herself from the middle of the staircase in the living room last week, aiming for the sofa - she missed and ended up in a little, black, furry heap on the floor. Fortunately, nothing was damaged, but her pride and it hasn't put her off! K x

LOL - Luckily I dont have any treasured ornaments - the boys put paid to those years ago. I'd settle for he just giving the curtains a rest and cutting down the paw washing! Kleiber, I am sure that Cleo is perfectly aware that she is being annoying - she just doesn't care as she can sleep all day if she wants! Poor puss with the 3 legs- Aww - I can just imagine the look of embarrasment on her face.

Saw this as well - thought it would be a good alternative to a cat flap as we only have steel core or double glazed glass doors. What do you think? Do you think half the cats in the estate would use it as a futuristic cat loo?

Well Annie, that cat house would be no good for Alice (my cat). Much too boring with nothing to do or wreck! Seriously, it does look a bit small though!!

Kleiber I really laughed reading about your Mischa - bless her, she is certainly enjoying life to the full. Cleo sounds just like Alice with her night-time antics. More sensible people would just shut there cats downstairs at night - but I'm afraid we are just softies in our house.
