Stop dog sleeping on bed.

I'm renting a cottage for a week later in year and taking my beautiful Chinese Crested bitch for a little holiday. The only problem is she's always slept on my bed and she isn't allowed in the bedrooms at the cottage. What will be the best way of training her to sleep in another room. I've tried in the past but she cries all night and it breaks my heart.

The main reason for people not wanting dogs on beds is because of moulting. Future guests may have an allergy to dogs, etc.
Is your chinese crested bitch one without any hair. If so, I would smuggle her in to the bedroom. Who will know!
Or you could take a blow up mattress and sleep in the living room with her!!

It depends on how long she has been sleeping on your bed. The longer she has, the more difficult it will be to train it out of her.
Imagine if someone stopped you doing something that you had done all your life, you'd be upset too, dogs haven't even got the power of reason and the only way they can communicate is by whining and barking. Thats why she does it.
My advice is to take a hard view and don't return to her whatever the circumstances. She won't come to any harm just because shes not in your bed, just sit it out. The longer shes slept with you, the more nights she will whine.
If you ever return to her during the night you will only confirm to her that if she whines, you will come and that starts a catch 22.

I am an animal lover and I do care about other people no-knowledge. But if the dog is bald then there are no problems. I presume the owners change the sheets before other guests arrive.
Besides, I would rather sleep in a bed that has been shared by a clean dog than one that has been slept in by some dirty humans!

If it is only for a week then I would sleep downstairs on the settee rather than upset the dog. You could try crate training her and ask if she could sleep in your bedroom if she slept in her crate, although as said above, it is not always the fact that they could leave dirty marks, it could be that some people suffer from asthma, although if they allow pets in the cottage at all then they would be affected. Where I stay they prefer dogs not to go in the bedroom, but a note on the wall says that they appreciate that some small dogs do not like being away from their owners and provided you tell the landlady she will clean the carpets and furnishings well afterwards. Other than that, find a dog friendly cottage. There are hundreds available.

My mam is bringing her toy poodle to the cottage so hopefully they will be company for eachother and be ok sleeping downstairs together, Last year we put them in kennels together and they were fine but hate leaving my doggy which is why holidaying in uk this year.
If the worst comes to the worst i'll just have to sleep downstairs with the dogs, i suppose its only for a week.

I think you should respect the rules of the cottage. There are plenty of places you could rent without restrictions. It's not just the hair, it the dirt from their feet, etc.
My dog is fine sleeping on his own if he's warm. We cover him with his blanket and he's fine although when we first got him (as a rescue) it was apparent he was used to sleeping in bed.
You could try putting a warm hot water bottle in her basket and seeing if that help if you leave her downstairs. Good luck

Hi sazzle,we too are going to a cottage with our dog,a small lab,and she isn't allowed in the bedroom.She sleeps in a soft crate in the bedroom at home,which also goes in the car, so I'm going to ask if she can sleep in that (the cottage owner also has a lab puppy so I'm hoping she'll be understanding!) If she says no looks like I'll be on the settee too! Good idea to take your own bedding like ruthann said.Hope you have a lovely holiday.
Thanks ruthan, I never even thought about taking my own bed linen. I'll get in touch with owners and see what they say.
I know they have a dog so hopefully they will understand but as Clio said, i'll have to respect the rules of the cottage. She'll probs be so worn out from running in the fields to worry about where she sleeps.
