My swallows are home!!
33 Answers
This morning, I looked up at the roof and saw a little male swallow. I'm sure I heard him yesterday but I didn't see him. I also saw another one flying overhead - male, too I'm sure. I think one may be one of last year's chicks - it's nice to know that at least one has made it back home!! They're early - wasn't expecting them till next Tuesday, as they've arrived on the same date for the last 3 years.
I haven't posted for a while, as I've been tucked up at work and this is a busy time of year round the farm, too, but I've taken a week off this week and this afternoon, I was sitting out on the terrace, in the lovely Welsh sunshine, with the birds twittering and a red kite circling above.
I've been adopted by a lovely ginger tom cat (just like Monty - an absolute Wuss!!) and he's gone to the vet's today, to be neutered. Little Mischa is growing up and is a right little madam, giving the other girls a hard time (she's so forward!!). Tom gets on really well with the girls, though, apart from Gavin, who sees herself as the matriarch and is up for protecting the whole household!! Anyway, I hope that all of you, my friends, are well and I'm sorry I haven't been around for a while. Love, K xxx

Bigmamma, I hope you and Porsche and pup are all fine (how's your son? Hope he's not been sent out to Afghanistan or anywhere nasty!!) Bensmum and Madaboutcats, it's great to hear from you both as well and yes, it IS idyllic up here at this time of year. All the daffodils are out in the back garden and on the verges of the lanes, there are taddies in our ponds, the siskins & the lone goldfinch are getting through a bag of niger seed a week - obviously building up their energy for nesting (costing me a small fortune, though!!) and in another month or so, the bluebells will be in full bloom. My wild garlic has done really well this year, so I'll be using that in all sorts of meals now - probably mainly omelettes 'cos the chickens are laying like mad!! I've sold some eggs to some tourists today and I've baked a brioche this morning, to try & use the rest up (before the next 10 or so arrive later!). I'd better go & check on my bread now as it's almost risen & ready to go in the oven, See you later!! K xxx
Its all round to kleibers for fresh home baked bread, i'll just get my coat and i'll bring a jar of my mums homemade raspberry jam.........I love the spring flowers, snowdrops first, then the crocus, and now the daffys which add a real splash of colour, you should see near my place of work, its a sea of yellow. My tulips are starting to open and some of the bluebells are about ready to open as well. Myfamily of woodies definately know spring is in the air.
I'm coming round too, mmmm.. home made bread.
My bluebells have just started to colour up so should look very pretty soon but the daffs have about gone over now. Bird wise I have the usual suspects out there but there is a great tit (which needs oiling I think) who sits out in the tree by the house squeaking from a very early hour every day. Lovely but repetetive. I don't see red kites here but there are lots of buzzards and I can spend hours out in the garden watching and listening to them. Isn't wildlife wonderful?

Oh, you people are all so lovely. I have enjoyed reading through this thread. I lost my dear Mum only a few weeks ago, so it has not been a happy time but you girls have cheered me up no end.
Our birds are all so busy now, but the bluetits (who were in abundance) are not showing themselves very regularly - so they must be sitting on eggs. My side garden robin and my front garden robin who have been arch enemies all year have now become an item!! - so lovely to see them together. I suppose when nesting is over they will go back to fighting again!!
The marsh harriers are back on the reserve and are flying over our way quite often and we have a small herd of roe deer living in the wood behind us and regularly grazing on the farmer's crops!! (tee hee!!)
Love to you all.

Oh, Lottie, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news - my love and deepest condolences to you.
bensmum, I've got a squeaky great-tit, too - he wakes me up every morning!!
Bigmamma, hope your boy is finding civvie-street OK and has settled in his new job!
Just to let you all know, the female swallow arrived home yesterday. If little birds have emotions (and I'm sure they do!), then these two were so full of joy to be re-united. The male was sounding so sad the last few days, calling to her to come home and now they're flying around together, snuggling up next to each other on the wires and are in and out of the stable, replenishing last year's nest ready for this year's little ones. It makes me feel so good to see them back together again. K xx

Wow, just joined tonight - as wanted to check up on other options for removing tics from my cats - which i have successfully done! Didn't expect to find such a community here, its lovely that people are regulars and friends on here - a nice bonus! Hope i get to help some others as well as get advice in future! Nic x
A big "Welcome" from me, too, Nicbow!!
Glad to hear that everyone's OK - I've been away again (!) this time in Cardiff for a couple of days, but it was lovely to get home! On Saturday, I was sitting outside on the patio, with a glass of wine (in between the gardening) and it was so peaceful. There were a couple of ravens flying way up high, croaking to each other, 8 buzzards soaring on the thermals and mewing, little birds singing all over the place and the only other sound I could here was sheep! No traffic!! Now I know why I moved here and when the weather's as lovely as it's been, it's a little piece of Paradise. K xx
