I'm in the process of making a bird table and since reading bizzylizzy's post I've been thinking, just what are the advantages or disadvantages of an open table. I've always put a roof on the ones I've made before but what do other people think?

I have used both types of tables and would always now use ones with a roof. The roof will keep seeds dry and stop them going into a soggy mush if it is wet. Also I like to think I am giving the birds a little protection from sparrowhawks etc whilst they are feeding. Also I have noticed I get quite a bit of poo on the roof but none on the actual table but when I used a table without a roof the birds would often poo there as well.

As I said 007 I've always put a roof on, it was just bizzielizzie was after an open one for her father who prefered them and it set me off thinking about the pros and cons of it and what other ABers thought. Any way thanks for replying
