If you google "free pets" willyemm, you'll find a good few sites which purport to give away all sorts of animals, but be careful, because they could include pups etc., with diseases.

Nobody gives anything worthwhile away for free.

Dogs given away 'free to a good home' are very rarely free of major problems.

A dog can have massive medical problems and still look healthy. Would you know if a dog had epilepsy just by looking at it? Many of these conditions involve life long vet bills (epilepsy drugs cost a small fortune per week). Once you have taken 'ownership' of an animal then you are obliged legally to provide veterinary care for that animal, not doing so can mean prosecution by the RSPCA.

Also many people give away dogs that have bitten or been aggressive - they don't want to be the ones to put the animal to sleep, rehoming it to someone unsuspecting is easier on their concience. It does not matter to them if two weeks down the line the dog badly savages someone.

The fees charged by the rescue centres not only cover the treatment to that animal but help them rescue further animals in future.
