I know that I should probably already know the answer to this question at the grand old age of 45....but I don't! What is the difference between alligator's and crocodile's, I don't need the deep and meaningful's....is it just a question of Northern and Southern hemisphere?

I think its to do with the snout.

crocs have much longer/ thiner snouts/mouths and alligators have wider and shorter mouths/snouts.

If One was chasing me I wouldn't care much(about the difference) but I think an alligator is less likely to chase a human than a crocodile is.

Probably the easiest way for a layman to tell is when the mouth is closed the fourth tooth is clearly visible in crocs, not in allgators.
