Please help, I've been plagued by ants fo the last 6 weeks. Have been using Nippon which works for 2-3 days, then they are back again. Can anyone suggest what else I can do.
pointless rollo, there are millions of ants and thousands of queens in a small area, the only reason they are coming in is because the forager ants have found a food source. you need to remove the food sources and use a spray that will poison that nest.
they will create new nests over time but if you continue to be vigilant in clearing up food debris and blocking any entrances then they should recede.
Try Dethlac, spray round the ant holes etc in a band about 6in wide, the ants take it into the nest and it eventually kills them all even the queen. the Lacquer remains effective for 3-6 months so with any luck you only have apply it once in the ant "season"
I had a problem with them once in my mums old house, I think they had somehow found the secret doughnut stash in the kitchen cupboard, anyway... I just watched the line they were walking in and then put pepper and a bit of chilli powder along it for a couple of days (topped it up once or twice) and that seemed to get the job done. They don't like how it feels on their anteni I think.
Some good ideas here Mags, but I've always used the Nippon gel on its own and it's done the trick. The thing is, you have to leave the pieces of wood down for a few days, and you may have more than one ant run, so watch where they're coming to and from and put thin slivers of wood down by the skirting boards/cuboard bases, and put several fairly big blobs of Nippon on each.
Once the ants go back to the nest and feed the queen, you won't have any more.
