Opinions on eating Dog meat
22 Answers
OK so when I was in China at the week end I tried dog meat and to be brutally honest it was delicious. It Tasted far better than bacon or beef. I am actually a dog lover. I love pigs too and cows. Do you find it wrong to breed dogs to eat? I am starting to warm to the idea after tasting the meat. Rather than pig farms we could have dog farms in th UK. What are everyone elses thoughts about this?

Aside from that, you are into society's tabboos here.
Because we see dogs as pets and cuddly and friendly, the notion of eating them is repulsive. It's all down to 'image'.
Everyone goes "Aaaah" at the sight of a baby seal, which would bite your fingers off ig you tried to cuddle it, and "Ugh!" at a praying mantis which is harmless.
I can see that the notion of a dog farm would be impractical, both from the point of view of dogs as unsuitable animals for farmking, and the outcry there would be if anyone tried it anywhere in the Western world.
Tastes are chaning though - imagine the notion of suchi taking off here even ten years ago, but now it is a highly fashionable form of dining.
As a nation which relishes dead animal fat on toast (dripping anyone?) maybe we should not be keen to point fingers, so I can appreciate that you have an adventurous spirit - but look out for some of the radical veggies who hit the site later on!

Even young people in Korea are opposed to this cruel trade...

I've no objection to any animal being slaughtered and then eaten. Needs must in some countries. What I do object to though is the quite often appaling way these animals (be in cow, pig, chicken or in your case a dog) are kept and the truly barbaric way they are slaughtered in other countries.
Even our own country's method of slaughtering, though allegedly regulated, sometimes leaves alot to be desired.

I have lived in China, and while I respect people's rights to eat what they want, it is how the dogs are marketed and the manner of the killing that revolts me.
The dogs can be seen in the marketplace, legs broken and tied behing their backs, muzzled with tin cans, and sufffering unimaginable pain.
Many people believe that the meat tastes best when the dogs are beaten to death, as the adrenaline released during this adds to the flavour.
Would anyone with any conscience want to eat meat that had been prepared in this way?

Elsie (the Wife( & I have been Veggies for nearly 60 years now,so I am disgusted!
Please don't try and convert me and tell me I don't know what I am missing.
Old saying (very Non PC I am afraid, but I don't care)
"The Chinese will eat anything with four legs, except a table"
"An alien lands on Earth in front of 3 Earthmen.
The Englismen thinks of new (redtape) rules to inflict on it,
The Frenchman thinks of ways to nake love to it,
The Chinese man thinks of recipes to cook and eat it!"

I see. Some interesting points of view.. I must admit the stall where I tried it did offer me the tongue but it looked a bit gros so I got my wife to ask them to slice a bit off. I dipped the slice of tongue in a bit of chilli sauce and it tasted nice but was a bit chewy and I wouldnt try the tongue again. I dont consider it a bad thing as I respect all forms of life and one life should not be more valuable than another. Eating bacon is the same as eating dog. Pigs are just as intelligent and self aware.
Pigs don't have special relationships with humans the way dogs do. My dog jumps on my bed in the morning and cuddles up to me with his head on my chest. It's his way of telling me that he loves me. I doubt a pig would do the same.
Also, when I was once bothered on the beach by a russian pestering me for money, my Dog was there to protect me. Again, I don't think a pig would have done the same.
