Should I get a cat?
26 Answers
I have recently divorced from my husband and now live alone.
I want to get a pet for company in the evenings but I work throughout the day so any pet I get would be on its own for about 10 hours and my friend suggested getting a cat because they sleep for most of the day(?) and wouldnt get lonely.
I dont really know much about cats, I've always had dogs, so I am not sure if this is true.
If I was to get a cat I would most likely get an older one from a rehoming centre.
Can anyone offer any advice on this? Is it cruel for a cat to be by itself for 10 hours a day or would it most likely be asleep as my friend suggests? Or should I get two cats so they will keep each other company in the day???
I dont want to get any pet if it will be unhappy, I would rather be lonely in the evenings, so any advice would be greatly received.

He`s a lovely dog, much better than a cat!!! lol
Good on you for caring for the animals though, must dash now, next doors cat is in the garden and Rocky needs to say hello to it!

Aaah spkesgirl - how nice of you to think about rescue cats.
I would definately get two - you could try looking for two that are related and need to be kept together then they will get a nice new loving home and will have each other to keep company while you are at work and then will make a fuss of you when you get home.
Good luck in your search! And if you ever need more cat advice - you wont find a better place than here!

Lol, totally agree with you Wolf but ... I got me a cat [after splitting up with an ex so maybe there's a theme here] and whilst he loved company, I could leave him at home all day and he was fine...also, I'd never had a cat before but he was so easy to live with, independent, cute, loving but definately his own cat ;p
if you decide to share your home with a cat, enjoy, they're fab, xxx
