You need to treat the cause before you start treating the symptoms. It could be Colitis, and changing diet may not help so before you waste money on a different dog food, I would seek advice from your vet.
Agree with jules, but also GSD's can suffer from a pancreas insufficiency. If he is very thin this could be the problem. As to food, my GSD's and other breed's have always been fed on Eukanuba and they now do a special GSD food. The poo is firm and they utilise more of the food, leaving less waste.
Definitely not unusual for a GSD to have tummy problems as lankeela has already said. My vet recommended chappie chicken and rice for mine, and he is now moved on to food from Trophy Pet Foods. Absolutely fine.
My dog suffers from colitis, and if he's fed chicken and rice, there's never a problem, it's a very mild and easily digested food and seems to suit dogs suffering from this complaint very well, but do see your vet!...........good luck.......................welsh
