I saw animal tracks in the snow this morning and I can't work out what made them. They consisted of a line of single imprints in the snow (oblongish) around 6 inches long. Anyone any ideas?
Probablt someone having a laugh. I used to make things like this all the time as a child then wonder what people would make of them. One of the favourites is walking backwards to the centre of a field, then retracing your steps. It looks like someone has landed in the middle of the field from nowhere then walked out lol
Nope, definitely not done by a human - they came from over a fence then along an enclosed area before jumping over a wall. No other signs of life about.
I still say it will be someone messing about. A box on the end of a stick can be used to do this. We used to do it all the time. Great fun and this is exactly the response we would expect.
How can a box on the end of a stick be pulled the length of half a football pitch with the width the same amount of space again and make imprints about 8 inches apart? It wasn't a continual line, it was a series of single imprints in the snow like a one-legged thing. Not a bird as I saw this at 5am this morning. It must be an animalof some description.
We used to use string with a shaped bit of plasticine on it. Get a mate at each end then one of them winds the string in, the other one lets it out, then drop the plasticine at regular intervals to make the "footprint".
We never tried making a one legged trail though as they are not very believeable.
Who says it has a box-shaped leg? A squirrel jumping its way across deep snow will leave marks which are oblongish and box-shaped.The marks stop where it leaps on to the fence.
Funnily enough a woman I work with told me about similar prints she had in her garden in the snow a few weeks ago. I live in a village in Lancashire, so no where near you.
