My daughter has a problem at the moment with the dog from her neighbours. They have this 3 legged dog but the bast***wards have gone away and left it in the garden. My daughter has been feeding it and would take it in but she has cats that would be upset. She heard it tonight at her front door and the dog was sat there with the empty food bowl in it's mouth. She wants to ring the RSPCA but is afraid they may put the dog to sleep. What do you all think is the best course of action.

She's fed it loads tonight NoMercy, she is very distressed about the poor thing.
These type of things are more frequent than you may think. Where I used to live one person regularly went away and left two cats out to fend for themselves with no food. My neighbour used to feed them every day and they went to her house and ate better than normally I think.
Unbelievable! Even someone who didn't want a dog surely couldn't leave a dog like that? I've always advocated that pet owners should be licensed, not the pets.
there are plenty of people who treat animals like this , sad but true

My daughter phoned the RSPCA today and it seems they aren't interested, they have logged her call but that is as far as it went.
Aw shucks I've always had a big heart for a three legged dog. What kind of owners are these? The law needs to be more harsh with idiots like these.
Typical RSPCA.

Have you a local dog warden (try contacting through Environmental Health Dept. of Council)?

They are usually more help than the RSPCA (who would in all likelihood have killed the poor dog anyway).

The dog warden should pick the dog up and charge the owners for its return. If they don't claim the dog back, or don't want to pay the money the dog warden may pass the dog onto a charity for rehoming (depending whereabouts you are).
I'm really shocked at the rspca, but I suppose they might receive a lot of calls, would the local vet practice be able to help you in some way.
How long are the owners away for?
This is so sick and cruel..
Question Author
I don't know how long the owners are away for. Part of the house is a flat which is let to a young woman, she comes and goes but doesn't like dogs so she won't let it in. Anyway my daughter has a friend who is a vet so she is seeking advice from him. By the way the dog is in Southport if anyone is interested.
This is so sad :(
Sick owners!!
you're shocked over the RSPCA not doing anything suzy? You've obviously never had to ring them over animal dealings then have you?

Sadly Puss I could have told you the RSPCA would more or less tell you to bugger off. As for them having no money as a previous person said? Oh please!!!
I bet the RSPCA asked for your daughter to donate to them though? They usually ask everyone that contacts them if they can add them to their list for donations.

You could also try posting on this dog rescue forum for advice (they have a section for dog chat and questions):

forget the RSPCA! they're useless! believe me!......feed the poor dog, if you can!...............try the Dogs Trust instead!.............
I tried to say yesterday not to use the RSPCA as your first choice, they're too interested in running their business rather than their cause, do try the Dogs Trust or local animal shelter.
Even non-animal people would be horrified that a human could leave an animal alone without food, shelter, water or companionship for any length of time.

People like that shouldn't be allowed to breed - how do they treat their own children?

Bah!

As I have posted on CB, the dog has been fed well tonight and last time it was seen it was asleep in garden. A friend who is a vet is on the case, please don't worry we will not let this lie.
He's lucky to have nice people like you guys looking out for him. Poor little baby.
Kudos to you, Puss...

I must admit I'm shocked at how ineffectual the RSPCA appears to be...
Puss, I do hope the poor thing will end up with a caring owner who will give it a much better life. So sad. Wish I lived near to Southport.
