My daughter has a problem at the moment with the dog from her neighbours. They have this 3 legged dog but the bast***wards have gone away and left it in the garden. My daughter has been feeding it and would take it in but she has cats that would be upset. She heard it tonight at her front door and the dog was sat there with the empty food bowl in it's mouth. She wants to ring the RSPCA but is afraid they may put the dog to sleep. What do you all think is the best course of action.

Jesus Christ... some people never cease to amaze me. What cruel, despicable people.

Phone the local dog shelter is what I'd do. Actually... I'd probably take the poor thing in myself, but if that's not an option... ring the local shelter and see what they say.
RSPCA definitely.
Ring the RSPCA, it is wrong to abandon the dog without food or water. I would not have any reservations about doing this - poor dog.
Poor little thing... that's really upset me now.

I love my little dog so much. If I only had a scrap of food, I'd make sure he had it and not me.
take it to the RSPCA i would say, remember, they would only put a dog down if it was in the dogs best interests, i very much doubt it would be so they would possibly get it rehomed or something but either way, the owners are obviously quite cruel to the dog and should not be allowed to keep it if they cant give it the love and attention it needs. hope this helps, all the best.
Try a local one or the Dogs Trust first, I do think the RSPCA tend to put animals down more readily than other charities.

Wicked, wicked swines. I can't bear to see an animal hungry or sad.

Can she not take it in just for one night?
I can understand why not, NoM - my cats would never forgive me if a dog came into the house. They'd be nervous wrecks.
Perhaps they could segregate? Keep the dog in one room away from the cats?

If not... do ring the local dogs' trust first thing in the morning.
Evening all. When you say they've gone away, do you mean on holiday or forever?
Hi lardy, long time no see, you ok?
Fine thank you boxy. How are you?
Yep .. as Prudie says .. an animal protection place of some sorts. If the dog is not old and suffering, it's unlikely to be put down just because it has three legs. They seem to manage fine.
There are some horrible horrible people about. Personally, I would track them down and pay them back in some way : (

My daughter has just been on the phone again and said she is phoning the RSPCA for advice as the dog is back begging again, possibly it has worms coz it's eating for England. Dog is about the size of a labrador, all black but with a pointed nose like a Gsd, seems it lost it's leg in a RTA, previous owner sorted it out but has since died, people next door took it on but have now lost interest. May I say that I would take the dog but I also have a cat who is old and doddery and I'm afraid a dog in the house would be very distressing for it.
Not bad thanks lardy - back to work tomorrow! (apologies to puss..)
Has she fed the poor mite this evening, Puss?
The RSPCA will not hesitate to prosecute if they feel there is a case of cruelty...
If I were just down the road, I wouldn't hesitate to let your daughter bring the dog to me. I hope they get prosecuted. A bit of love, a bit of food... what more does an animal ask for?
The RSPCA are crap at doing anything at the moment.
They have no money.
