Its all sodium chloride, the only difference is that rock salt is the form that is mined together with lots of mineral impurities and cooking salt is rock salt with the impurities removed

cooking salt also sometimes has an anti caking additive and sometimes iodine....check the label

Sorry for being dim but why do you put salt in your fish pond?

Usually parasites or diseases such as fin rot masma. It's only left in a short while and large water changes should be performed afterwards.

Mind you, it's only used on koi ponds.
