my poor chicken is dying :(

i've had my speckeldy for three days now, and she has been very quiet since we got her. I've never had them before so didn't take it as anything serious.
Anyway, she's definitely on her last legs. The place we bought her from seems quite undeterred and has told us to get some live yoghurt and syringe it into her mouth, leave her overnight and see how she is in the morning.
Does anyone think this will work?

I have a severe allergy (pigeon fanciers lung) and must not mix with chickens, pigeons or members of the parrot family!! I would love some chickens, but it is not to be!!
Hey, Lottie would be a good name for a chicken.
Lottie and Dotty!! x

As far as I know Crisgal it's just pigeons, parrots and chickens, but I would be too nervous ever to have birds of any sort again. It's a nasty life threatening illness, fortunately in my case diagnosed reasonably early and my lungs seem to have had been left with very little damage.
I would be very honoured to have a little chicken named after me!!

No Wolf. That is something entirely different. What I have is Allergic Alviolitis (Pigeon Fanciers Lung) psittacosis is a disease which birds carry and humans can catch which can be serious and is like pneumonia. My lungs are damaged from from Allegic Alviolitis which is similar to emphasema in many respects and much more common up north where there are lots of pigeon fanciers. Is is not something you 'catch' just reaction to the protein in bird poo, bird feathers etc.
Hi again Wolf. Yes it's nasty. It is over ten years ago now that it was diagnosed and I have gone way past the 5 year mark where it had to be be monitored. I am fine and my lungs are working well, but obviously can't have birds any more.
One of my cockateils did have psittacosis and had to be put to sleep, but I didn't catch it. Psittacosis doesn't leave permanent damage,it's just a very nasty illness both for birds and humans (and dogs too apparently!!), but can be treated with antibiotics.

LL - Frankie is looking for a girlfriend. He is scared of his sister.
crisgal - have you had birds before? My brother was talking about getting a 'few' for his garden. I don't think that the neighbours would be keen. I am not a bird person but I know that they make good friends to have. I know somebody who had a pet parrot and he was evil, dangerous, aggressive but very entertaining. I hope that things go better with the next one.

our new lady has arrived and She's gorgeous! A bit timid yet, but very alert and perky.
wolf63 - I am surprised at how quiet they are. Their coop sits on the fence joining the neighbours and she didn't know i'd got them. Mind you - it's early days yet.
The little pupupupup sound roxy makes is very sweet. The new one still makes a kind of cheep noise!
My little girl (human!) is much happier now!
