Best Dry Cat Food??

Hello again,
More kitten advice please!!
The vets have advised Hill's Science Plan dry kitten food...
Do I really need to buy that? Or is there something else as soon but not as expensive?

Hill Science and Iams are both good quality dried food. I would start your kittens on whatever they have been eating when with their mum. The last thing that you want to do is change their food - a tiny kitten with diarrhoea is the last thing that you want.

My two get Iams (which is left down all the time) and a sachet each per day.

I use a mix of both wet and dry food and have always started kittens on this regime, but you need to be sure to feed kitten versions for the first few month. Biscuits are good for the teeth. Make sure you give them a variety to they develop a wide taste - mine are turning into fussy boys in their old age and won't eat own brand food, has to be Felix or Whiskas as the minimum!

Ugghh - that wet food all summer produced stinky old maggots.. quite an alarming sight with wiggily things in my poor boy's bowl.. he's fed the bare minimum now.. I think I might have the first annorexic cat!!!

mostly use royal canin for her longhaired highness... they do kitten food as well,,, bit cheaper than science plan and often has nice free gifts... recently had some great printed bucket shaped tins that now have my orchid plants in and have had books free in the past too

When mine was at the vets getting his gonads chopped the vet said that whiskers/go cat was absolutely fine. He has that along with meat and fish.

Our little Persian is almost 17 years old, he has had different cat foods,Whiskas Sheba and Tiger biscuits all his life, and he has never been ill...the odd bit of chicken goes down very well.Like us he enjoys a change.

after reading about all the health problems animals are having as a result of eating dried foods, I would stick to a tin of whiskas..

I second that. I took on my mother's cat who at 12 was the size of a rugby ball and couldn't jump on the sofa, bed and quality of life was poor, She'd been lovingly fed on Science Plan for several years. I switched her to Felix and Whiskas pouches and she is now lithe and lively and can jump and climb anywhere.

they reckon its purely a money spinner for the pet food companies and the vets can earn a few quid for recommendations. with all the health implications it keeps the vets in business as well.
