Hi. We've just got some new sofas and the cat has taken to clawing them which I really don't want him to do. He has a scratching post but doesn't use that. Is there anything I can do to stop him?

I had this problem with dog chewing the plaster off the walls and the cat clawing everything within sight.I bought a product called'Canac' pet behave training spray off E-Bay and have had no trouble since.Amazing stuff and doesn't stain furnishings
try putting a load of double sided cellotape - put a lot on for a day or two - cats hate it.
We've got the same problem with our stair carpet. When we had a carpet fitter in this week I asked him what we could do about the tufts she has pulled out, he told me to shave them off and then rub orange, lemon or any citrus peel onto the carpet as cats don't like the smell of it and will run a mile from it. He said it won't do any harm to the fabric nor discolour it - worth a try 'specially if you eat a lot of oranges and it will keep your house smelling nice into the bargain lol.
Another thought for your moggy is that cats don't like aluminium foil.
Maybe put some of that around the area he chews until he gets used to the idea that it's a NO - NO!!!!!!
