She had never done it before and never has done since, but when she came back she was filthy, a little thin and very dusty, so I think she got locked in one of the farm buildings a few yards up the road.
I think as your cat is a tom, it could well be spring calling him to do his duty. If he's been 'done' it shouldn't be as much of a problem (they won't disappear for quite as long as an intact male), but it may not prevent it altogether. My 'ex-tom' has disappeared for several days two or three times in the 9 years he's been with us, and it is very worrying, I get upset every time; but he has always come back happy and healthy - and absolutely LOVES the attention he's received on his return.
I too hope you will let us know when your cat comes home and how he is when he gets there.
A couple of months ago my cat went missing. It was very unlike her and like you I was worried instantly.
I posted flyers through peoples doors, put up posters in the local shops, asked neighbours, phoned cats protection and all the vets and shelters in my area (make sure you keep a list of them so you can call them when he returns to take him of their lists). I also searched around my area a couple of times a day and left strips of my old clothing at what I thought would be the edge of her territory. Cats use smell to navigate so if she had strayed too far my clothing would help her find her way home.
One not so nice call was to the council street services to see if her body had been found.
One thing I put on my flyer was that injured cats will hide and stay silent so please could people check their gardens. What I wish I had also put in hindsight was to ask people to open and search their garages!
My kitty returned exactly one week later a bag of bones and with an oil smudge on her neck. I'm thinking she was definitely stuck in someone's garage.
I was so convinced I would never see her again! Keep positive and do what you can to find him. Don't worry about a collar either. Both of my cats don't wear collars and to be honest it wouldn't have made any difference if they did. In fact I have been told by vets that it's better for cats to go without as they can get them caught when trying to squeeze through those impossibly small spaces that they go through so often.
Let us know if he comes back.
Not really - I had a phone call from a guy last night who'd seen a cat fitting his description so went down there and again this morning. No sign but spoke to some builders and a guy who turned out to be head of neighbourhood watch. Put up a few more posters. I think my friends think i'm over-reacting, but i feel i have to do everything possible.
Still feeling fairly possitive that he's on a jolly somewhere. Thank you all so much for your encouragement. It would do me no good to panic.
My cat went missing on Monday night. We let her out Monday night at 10.00 o'clock because she was making a fuss (we don't usually let her out at night, but if we do then she is normally back within half hour). Tuesday morning came and went, all day Wednesday and Thursday. We put some flyers out through local letter boxes and alerted all the neighbours to look out for her.
I said to the trouble and strife this morning before I left for work that I don't hold out much hope for her now, the weekend is approaching and if she doesn't make an appearance by the end of the weekend then I don't expect she ever will and to fear the worse.
Well, imagine my surprise, the wife has just phoned me to say, guess who has just walked through the door.
Yep, thats right the dirty little trollop has literally ten minutes ago turned up Miaow,Miaow wheres my food.Looking none the worse for wear. God knows where she has been, but she is being grounded for a couple of days.
So don't despair miracles do happen. Best wishes.
