Before you buy a new monitor - make (in an art program) a sheet that is just plain white.
Save it as a jpeg (or BMP) disable your screensaver/monitor switch-off then open the picture and press F11 (so it fills the screen) then just leave it for a couple of hours.
I had something similar and this worked.
Laptop ? desktop ? flat monitor or CRT monitor ?
Do the lines look as if they are "burnt" in ghosts of a page that has been on your screen for a while ?
thanks for the advice folks , its a desk top Emachine, bought flat monitor with it ,2006 Answer prancer > no to yr question , its hard to describe exactly what the white lines look like .
