Just been watching Crufts. Can anyone explain where the animal's official pedigree names come from, and why they are so ludicrous. thanks.

You make them up and can't have the same, or nearly the same  as anyone else. By now, all the straight sounding ones are gone, so you end up with weird ones
Each breeder has a Registered name - eg "Stanroph" - so each puppy bred by them would have that as part of its name. Then generally a breeder will select a theme for each litter, eg Abba songs, or planets or whatever, but something they haven't used before, so pups from the same breeder and same litter could be called "Stanroph Fernando" , "Stanroph Winner Takes it all" etc. Pups from a different litter would be "Stanroph Saturn" etc etc. It is merely a way of giving a unique identifier to each pup, that gives an indication of its origin
