Sorry so excited WAXWINGS!!!!!!!!
Good for you rowan. Did you manage to take a pic?
I've never seen one :-(
Nice link Baldric.

I definitely have never seen one but at least I know what they look like now
What do they look like? I have hung out a bird cage thing, open sides of course with some tempting bird seed in, but so far have seen nothing. It is swinging in the wind, would that prevent birds coming to feed there? Perhaps I should find a more sheltered spot? Or do they require time to find it? It is two days now but perhaps I am too impatient.
Thanks Baldric. I would love to see them. They are very pretty aren't they!

Sausagebirds!
Are you waxwing lyrical rowan:-)
I've just looked in the birdwatchers' manual and it says that birds seen from a moving vehicle don't count. They must be observed from terra firma!

fluff off carrust they were waxwings that was good enough for me....
I saw a good clip of these on WinterWatch. A lucky young chap called Henry from Shetland got a great view of them!
There's a nice blog about Henry and his feathered family here....

We were just getting in the car to leave when we spotted the starlings gathering....yes! A murmuration! Beautiful.
Riskybiscuit....a wonderful experience for Henry.
Just had a flock of about 50 over the house. Come to me you little buGGers:-)
Well Rowan, I am glad this thread has cleared up my thoughts on your original post. I was sure you had spotted Em, ( whoever Em is ) on the bus, and we all had to keep watch for one. I think I need more tea.
Could you send some to the west country please, never seen one down here. :-(
