Blue Tits Nesting

Do blue tits nest twice? or this late? I saw two of them taking a great interest in one of our nest boxes this morning perching on or near it and peering into the hole as if they were sizing it up for a nest site, its the first time this year that any interest has been shown in this particular box although it was used last year.

Yes, they can, if the first clutch fledged early.

thanks boxtops, I will watch what goes on, and hope the nice weather lasts for them if they do go for it.

They do sometimes have a second brood but it surprises me that it may happen this late in the year. It will be interesting to know if they do decide to nest.

May be that they know something we don't. An Indian summer lasting until mid October perhaps.
