Earlier this year (Spring time) we were surprised to find sparrows occupying the bird box fixed to the wall of our house.Eventually after all the nesting, feeding etc, and the young birds had flown, the male bird still visits the nest and sits on the roof of the box chirping away for most of the day. We cannot understand this . Has anybody experienced similar behaviour and any ideas
Sparrow usually lay several clutches in a year. They mate for life, but if a mate is lost the survivor will try to pick up another mate, and should succeed at this within a few days. Maybe your sparrow is not having too much luck!
Many thanks for your answers and comments.
Yes, we thought that was probably the situation - he is still up there now,
hope he finds a mate soon - just wish we could help him !!!
