I was delighted to see a nuthatch on my bird feeder this morning, as they had seemed to become rather scarce.

I don't think think there is anything quite like them.

I'm hoping more will come.

They really are lovely bird, such beautiful colouring. We have a pair who regularly come to out bird feeders. Funny the way they hang upside down.
Unlike the tits particularly the Great Tits, Nuthatches rarely visit in pairs. I have seen one feed whilst another waits in the nearby trees(using a pair of bins.) After bird one has fed they change places and depart together. I use the bins. btw not the Nuthatch. Beautiful birds Chipchop. its a wonder they don't get indigestion eating upside down.

Just a theory but I think they get a better view of whats going on around them, (predators maybe) by hanging upsidedown
You are probably right there Chipchop. Occasionally a Kestrel bullets in and takes one of the tits right out of the feeder, an amazing sight. They do keep the feral common pigeons down though.

I was so pleased to read the header of this thread as all afternoon at the back of my mind telling me there was something I wanted to look up on the computer and the word 'nuthatch' reminded me....
Me being the tender age of 65, no more than 3 ft in front of me I was watching a Goldcrest flitting about in a shrub. I had never seen one to recognise it before so I then googled it for confirmation. Lovely little thing too.

Stefos, I had a similar encounter with a goldcrest on the 23rd of December (wonderful) scroll down a bit.
