Song Thrush

Any evidence of the song thrush making a comeback ?
I know they've been in sharp decline for many years.

I ask this because, I've noticed a greater presence in my garden.

I wish they would. A neighbour a few doors down said she'd heard one in the early hours...she sleeps at the back of the house, all the local gardens have trees and shrubs, so hopefully there's one around.

You lucky man Chip, Not seen a Song Thrush or Mistle Thrush for a few years.
Used to watch the Song Thrush banging snails on a little stone wall out the back to open them up. The Song Thrush has been on the conservation "Red List" for a few years now.

Yep:-)) Very pleased to report I have one coming into my garden on a fairly regular basis which thrills me to bits. Also, one day this week, I was walking the mutts in a local park and I saw three at once, two together and another one on its own some distance away. Couldn't believe my eyes. Wonderful.
So glad you posted this chip, it's reminded me to tell my friend who will be thrilled as well.

no thrushes but I have got one house sparrow visiting this year...first time in ages....I am hoping that one means a brood being fed somewhere.

My surprise this year is a pair of long tail tits, they must be nesting nearby. Never been seen here except just passing through. They love the fat balls.

Mum has a pair of mistle thrushes in her garden (first time ever) and I always saw song thrushes in my local park whenever I walked my dog, they were quite common. Probably still are, but I lost him last Oct. so don't go to the park now.

Like Togo we used to have a couple of thrushes who used the base of one of our garden ornaments to open their snails but not seen any for ages.Unfortunately since we lost Max we've seen an increase in the cat population and now all we seem to get are sparrows and pigeons with the odd blackbird dropping in every now and then.

Thanks all, good to know a few folks are seeing them. I think if more people lay off the pesticides, numbers will begin to recover.

The ones that I see are mostly in the early morning, pulling worms from the lawn.

I'm fairly sure we had a mistle thrush in the garden a few days ago.

We have one which is busy nest building, we have an arbour which is covered in ivy and it flies in and out with breakfuls,love watching it from the window gathering all the grass and moss. A couple of years ago we had one which came every morning about seven and waited for me to open the door with breakfast! One of its feet was back to front which is how I knew it was the same one, it went away for the winter then would you believed it came back in the spring, 'lovely to see it. Haven't seen it this year tho' but we have a blackbird now which does the same, runs over as soon as I put my hand on the door handle, no matter what time it is, he waits, but he wants feeding every time I go in the garden!!
