I've seen three mallard chicks at our local marina yesterday!! Seems a bit late in the year for nesting! Is this unusual or has anyone else seen something similar?

Late or early ?
I have noticed that mallards will sometimes breed out of season, I've often seen this in pigeons too.
Hope they survive the winter !

Actually, make that five chicks!! Can't decide if it's early or late, Chipchopper!
It's not unheard of but unusual, in 40 years of living next to a stretch of water with Mallards resident the coldest month I've seen them is February.

Think that was only once though.
