I like it!
What are you wanting to like lankeela? we can mark an answer as best answer. You cant really like a person on here. We are, lets face it, anonymous to all intents and purposes.
Definitley not!
Oh, please Noooooo!
This is my only refuge from the hideous place that is Facebook!
We have a 'don't like' button. It's called 'Report'.
you have to be careful on here! I once made a negative remark about facebook and got a quite nasty comment for my troubles!
Question Author
What actually happens when you mark something as best answer? I click it occasionally but can't say I've ever noticed anything different after you have clicked it. Sometimes I just want to 'like' a comment but not actually make a comment myself.
Question Author
Well I clicked mark as best answer to grasscarps first answer and all that has happened if you bother to look is that the words mark as best answer have disappeared!
Question Author
So what happens if someone else comes up with a better answer that you want to mark as best answer? I'll try clicking another one to find out and let you know.
You can only 'mark as best answer' when you have posted the thread. I often see a comment that makes me laugh or I agree with and would like to be able to express that - but often the thread has run on too far for me to be able to make a relevant comment.
If you're into that culture lankeela, you could just comment with "*like". I've seen it done.
I understand, and that is not a bad suggestion. At the moment only the setter can grade an answer (maybe) and a long time ago we could give one to three stars to answers on our own thread. Nobody has ever been able to like an answer, except to take a separate post to make a comment about it. I think your idea is novel and could work!
Question Author
Thats my point, I would like to 'like' the odd comment in a thread without having to go to the end and put one on. By the way nowt happened when I clicked another one to mark as best answer! So therefore you would have to wait till the end of the thread to do it, but how would you know when that was?
Question Author
Ah, now its changed!
you are talking a lot of sense Lankeela. I am very tired now and will say good night - and good luck with this thread.
Sounds like picking favourites to me. And there's no point in that. If you really like a comment, just take the time to name the person. How hard is that?
Type a few words. It's easy.
But Jammy, if the comment is on page one of a 6 page thread and you don't comment till the end, it is unlikely to be seen by the person who made it. It's not about picking favourites, it's about the actual comment.
The 'Mark as Best Answer' feature has yet to be made to work by AB's techies. (I say 'techies' but I'm fairly confident that AB's system is maintained by a twelve-year-old kid who accesses the site's server from his smartphone while riding his skateboard!). As has been pointed out, it fails to deal with the situation where, after clicking on the button, someone else posts a better answer!

We used to have a 'star rating' system for questioners to respond to answers. If I recall correctly, three stars meant 'thanks very much; you've solved my problem', two stars meant 'sorry, that didn't help, but thanks for trying' and one star meant 'why did you bother to answer?'.

Simply saying 'Thanks' (as nice people like Lankeela do anyway!) would seem to be the easiest way to do things ;-)
karenmac! Nothing is seen here unless you subscribe to the thread. It all disappears into the ether........I think a "like" button is the least of our worries!
I shall not object to a 'Like' button. Providing of course that it remains inactive, along with 'Mark as best answer'.

Ron.
