Death is frequently sad, horrid and targic.

I just wish the Americans could learn to put more value on the sanctity of ALL life ... not just when they are outraged at having been attacked by their perceived "enemy".

As ichkeria says ... there are lots of tragedies.

In terms of visual impact, 9/11 was huge. In terms of the numbers who died, it was quite small (2,996), compared with, say ...

Civilian deaths in Afghanistan ... 9, 759 (and rising)

Civilian deaths in Iraq ... 150,000 (lowest estimate) - 1,000,000 (upper estimate)

If the US really want to commemorate tragic loss of life, they could have a day to commemorate those Americans killed by other American motorists (not just injured - killed) since 9/11, many of whose families have been left penniless. The number ... 480,000.

Parhaps instead of feeling like the victims of the World (while still trying to RUN the World), the day of commemoration should be extended, to recognize all people who have lose their lives as a result of conflict, or other people's thoughtlessness.
Well said JJ, well said indeed.

We've been watching the tragic events for quite a few days now. As an adult I don't need reminding.

I know....but I don't like being made to feel that I should do something.
I shan't be commemorating the events of *9/11* as I am already suffering 'compassion fatigue' on the issue.

Perhaps, as this is the 10th anniversary of the tragedy, from this point on, the TV documentary companies may like to turn their focus elsewhere at this time of year?

It'd be nice to think so.

I agree with ichkeria and JJ

Oh and Jack too
Trigs, have you been eating treacle?
That post was actually excellent JJ.

I think it was a dreadful event, and a great shock for the Americans who couldn't conceive that anything like that could happen in America. In general They don't seem to know, or want to know, what the world is like outside of their 'wonderful country'.
Not sure that this is a good idea, but could have the U.S. flag on this site's main logo though. That would be a lovely thought.
