Frequently, it would be useful to be able to refer specifically to a particular previous post on a thread. Would it not be a good idea to number each post ?

I agree, especially on some of the longer threads.
I say "Khandro's post at 23.31" - does that not suffice?
I use posting times too. It's easy enough.
I have seen that on many other forums and it does work well, especially on long threads.
Although I am a name and not a number :D

Your method requires someone to look at both posters name and the time. Sequential numbering would be more effective, in my view.

I sometimes forget where to look for a previous post, can't remember the title or the OP, so I have to trawl through the day/topic I think it was in.
You often get two or three posts at the same time, too.
Good idea, Khandro!
Morning,

Each answer does have an a individual number attached to it. I'll try and think of a way we could make it easy to reference.
Even better if you could link to it ;-)
I was thinking a little button which could reference a post/copy a link to it to the clipboard. I'm not sure how you make it obvious to everyone though.

boxtops - thats still a bit long winded...the person still has to wade through pages because the time doesnt correspond with a particular page.
