I refer not to the interesting (if a little heated) debates in news today, but to this thread.

I'm not Muslim myself, but I am still hugely offended by what's been said.

There's no racism option when it comes to reporting posts, or questions - so I plumped for "abusive".

I realise everyone's entitled to a view on here.  But where is the line?

Ed - I look forward to hearing your views in a nice little pink box!

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question129335.html  I was waiting for jno to appear in support for acw. If you look over a lot of threads on AB jno always appears in support or agreement. Very strange?

You didn't have to wait long then, owtaboutnowt, since I posted the first response on this thread, probably being the only person still up at that time of night. But why is that strange, owtaboutnowt? Got some dark suspicion you'd like to share with the world? Or just hoping someone else will come up with one?
Basically everyone has the right to their own opinions - some of which  some of us heartily disagree - but no one should be bullied - and politeness should prevail. acw you have the spirit and fire of the young, and state many valid and good points but please respect other points of view also.

Jno, acw does a lot of venting on this site and she comes across as a bit of a megaphone most of the time. If we ever need a solicitor/barrister you have acw Ill have a calm and collected professional one. Sorry you dont want the chance to debate and maybe have a remote chance to change a racist mind if this were possible jno.

I'm going to stick to the topic here.

I fully take on board the arguements made here about allowing a free debate on racism.

I have actually changed my views in light of what has been said.  I see now that it is healthy to have a debate and that it is perhaps useful for some, many or all of us to see the other side to the arguement.

As ABE has said, in light of recent events, the line has become blurred - that is true. Also I agree with Glossopswift that it probably wasn't inciting racial hatred, it was just expressing it, not trying to encourate it - fair point.

I do respect the views of others, whatever you might think.  I don't like bullying and name calling and that does get my back right up.  For those who think I am always agressive, please see any one of the many questions I have answered with helpful, objective and useful information.

Thank you.

IWANOWENS I think there are different sorts of venting: getting into a heated argument with another user is different from expressing anger about different racial or religious groups. You suggest doing the latter might be a worthwhile alternative to actually going out and beating people up. I agree; but I fear it may also incite some people to do just that, which is why, in times of tension, it troubles me. I'm not aware of trying to stifle debate; indeed I seem to be contributing to one right now.

As for solicitors: well, suppose you feel aggrieved about something, and you go to see one. One solicitor may say: 'You've only got a 40-60 chance of succeeding in a lawsuit, so don't bother.' Another may say: 'You've only got a 40-60 chance of success, but I'll do my damnedest to beat the odds.' Both are professional attitudes; and of course you're entitled to prefer the first.

Well, when I make it as a commercial solicitor (and I will - mainly because I am perfectly capable of behaving perfectly professionally, but I don't see why I should do that 24/7, especially when I'm out of the office and on my own time), I will be taking my instructions from the Partners about which clients I work for and when and on what types of matter.  If I end up working on the legal issues surrounding your company pensions scheme, the chances are none of you would ever know that I'd been involved.  You don't always choose who works to help you in this life, that's just the way it goes.

However I, like a vast majority of young graduates in this country, am simply enoying my time as a young person before I knuckle down to the 8-8 until I'm 80.  If I am going to give up the daylight hours of my adult life to be sensible and professional for 55 years, I think I should be allowed to have a bit of fun and debate now!

I rest my case acw/jno verdict; case proven!

We're actually the same person outaboutnowt.  I have a split personality and I also sometimes think I'm a man and post under the name jno

Oh yes, and if you type in the "flight number" for the first plane to hit the twin towers, change it to size 48, change it to wingdings - look what you get.  http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Question129456.html

If those things are all true, then jno and I MUST be the same person!!! :-)

acw I did like that other answer you gave, very nice and thoughtful.  Yes you enjoy your youth and learn a good profession.  More sympathy in your replies and you'll be 10/10.

Cheers manilow.  I do agree that I need to be more careful in how I post.  From here on in I will try harder to make it clear that I respect another person's view before I disagree with it.  You are perfectly right that that's something i need to work on.  I'm glad that one person at least can appreciate that I, like nearly everyone else on here, am not in a professional capacity when I make posts, therefore I don't need to behave as if I am. Behaving with a little more maturity though - that I need to bring to my internet life from my normal life - and I will endeavour to do that in the future.  :-)
Have just done that flight thing that is sooo scary.
you're right owtaboutnowt, that is really spooky. (Not as spooky as the Q33 NY thing, but almost as accurate.) My profile reveals that I have posted 2156 answers and that 2136 have been in support of acw. The other 20 have been in support of George Clooney. Must be my weakness for a pretty face.
I see myself in you, a  few years back.  I would have layed in the road for my beliefs, and I was very hot-headed (I am not saying you are!).  It took me a while to realise that I had to bend a bit.  But I still don't like giving in to anyone but we learn.

manilow - I AM hotheaded. I admit that freely.  I was always told at school to ignore people who say nasty things (or things you disagree with) because they'll get bored and go away.  But I figured that they'd go away thinking they were right and that I agreed with them.  I don't want people to think I agree with things I don't.  I'm losing my thread of logic here - there was one!  I know I need to bend a bit - see I've been missing my pilates classes so I've become a bit up tight!! :-p :-)  Thanks for your comments though, seriously, I appreciate it! :-)

I also hope you did read the whole of that "coincidence" thread - where the truth is revealed a little later on.

jno - I thought those stats sounded a little low to me.  Are you SURE there were 20 in support of George?  Or were you just classing them as in support of George when I tried to start a GC fan club?  You see, secretly, I tihnk you were supporting ME, not George!  You just can't tell anymore petal, as we blend into one! :-p :-D

it's nice to be thought of as male. Not saying I'm not, mind you.
Why have my answers been banned.  They were friendly, kind and not abusive.  What is going on????

I have always held the opinion, that 10ClarionSt is a bit of a fantasist, and lives in their own dream world!

I fully expect to be abused by them for this statement!

welcome back manilow, I wondered where you'd gone. The robots probably thought you were Barry and had to be exterrrrrminated.
