Who can say when a thread is dead?

I answered a question, back in February, from someone requiring a helpline phone number regarding the collapse of a company handling shopping vouchers. So there it was: Question asked, question answered, thread dead.

Then, a few days ago, someone else posted a similar question. The original web page from which I got the information had long since disappeared. (It was on a newspaper's website which is updated daily). But I was able to locate my original answer and pass the information on to the questioner. So, a thread, which appeared to be dead over 5 months ago, suddenly came to life again.

Also, I posted a question last September (in the Science category) which continues to create discussion and still gets occasional posts. When should it be declared dead?

Possibly those that don't ever get an answer, Chris.

If you look down the Topics, quite often there are unanswered Q's, which are still there when they have gone off the front page. I've noticed this when looking back on previous threads, to see further replies. The Q's are no longer in view of current posts, so get ignored.

Even though an unanswered question has gone off the page, it hasn't lost its chance to be answered! If anyone has a mind to, they can always click on the 'All Unanswered' tab at the top of the category and it will bring up, funnily enough, all the unanswered questions there are. So there's still hope!
