Some people start to think they secretly have so much money that they control governments. Populist politicians start to demand that they be expelled or even killed for the good of the rest of the people. (This has happened a lot of times over the centuries.) So people start building death camps...

That joke is years old.....how was it banned? Does someone have to post an answer and then ban the post or can they just ban any post anywhere? I cannot understand this banning that goes on here with members coming back under a new name and recognised as an old name and surely if something is not to your personal individual taste then there is no reason to ban it and exclude others who may have a better sense of humour than yourself? I can understand banning if any person advertises or is very rude but the banning rules on AB seem to be very weird.
Thank you, jno.
A voice of reason.
Lots of things are years old - doesn't mean they are ok.
I will not go into a discussion of anti-semitism now, because this is the wrong place and audience. I see so many anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim posts on this site that everyone seems to think are just fine and all in good fun. Well before you tell someone to get a life and lighten up, next time think who you are saying that to, and maybe think that they have a reason for being offended. Just because these things don't touch your lives, doesn't mean they don't severely affect others.

dresdie, as a matter of interest that joke was given to me years ago and it came from a Jewish Company and the boss (himself a Jew) sent it to me. I am not Jewish but if he could see the fun in it then it says a lot. Someone said here that they see nothing wrong in fat jokes as they were fat - I see nothing wrong in jokes concerning disabilities and I am disabled - I don't think we can look at the Jewish past going back thousands of years and relate it to atrocities in the last world war. I have Jewish friends and they make jokes similar to this. I think some of you have very good points that you have made but are way too touchy ?
Jokes amuse many but offend the few at whose expense they are.
An old joke like this is viewed differently today, than over the past. Times change, attitudes change and what is sociably acceptable within the law changes.
Why not have a Jokes sub-category - then Abers will know if they enter this Topic, there will be 'moderated' jokes there - some of which they will find funny and others that may 'touch on a sensitivity' and not seem to them so funny.
Joke telling like the one in this Question should be posted to this sub-category.
{plain joke telling is not the same as witty banter on threads}

ida, I disagree. Obviously my last post compressed things a lot; but I believe there is indeed a common thread running through Jewish history that does link anti-Jewish jokes to anti-Jewish pogroms.
Jews themselves may well tell such jokes, and other Jews may laugh at them, but then Jews have nothing to fear from other Jews. It's when the identity of the teller of the joke is unknown that it becomes troublesome. In this case, it could for instance have been someone from the National Front. Would the joke sound so funny coming from, say, Nick Griffin or David Irving? Or the Iranian president? Would it be 'just a joke'?
