Following on from Georgit79's question, I think there was one or more AB Convention at the ARTA bar in Glasgow but I was unable to go.  Is there anyone here who went to the Convention?  When was it last held?

Not sure about the bar but I did hear that it wasn't a totally friendly meeting. Mind you that's Glasgow for you.

I used to be a member of SIGMA and they along with associate clubs had (and still do as far I know) quite large (200+) conventions annually. AB is a question and answer site which is totally different. Some people just pop in and ask a question and get the answer and go, never to return.Of course that is not what the site owners want. The more site members, the more revenue from the advertisers.

Does anyone actually click on any of the adverts?

I was there. March 2003 it was. It wasn't a huge turnout, but it was friendly and it was great fun. I believe there would have been a much bigger turnout but people were put off when certain users ridiculed the idea of a convention. At first there was a lot of interest, then some people spoiled it by calling us anoraks. Interest waned after that, but a few of us diehards went along and had a great time.
Hey Archbishop - not clicked on a single advert rofl ... will they kick me off the site cos I dont do that?  Wouldn't mind if they had some interesting ads lol!!!

I have never clicked on any ads either...

*GAB* tartanwiz & archbishop.

I have clicked on one ad all the time I've been here.

*GAB* Jenny Tools - and I bet the advert you clicked on was that naked right breast of the Toyota Yaris ad.

Anyone up for a proper AnswerBank meet-up?

Yes - may I suggest California?

A proper AB meet-up would be lovely. However, the idea makes me somewhat nervous.  We probably would'nt act as naturally as we do on line, where we are not trying to create impressions, etc. and, in my opinion, where we are  being quite honest with each other.

It would probably take quite a time for the occasion to 'warm up'.

O n the other hand it could prove really great!

! wouldn't !

I have just found out that we can do paragraphs after all, just in the normal way, although the space looks huge in the answer box!

That's settled then - zgma's kindly agreed to buy us all plane tickets to Californ-I-A. Get in.

Put me down as a window seat, please, zgma.

Put me down for the pilots seat, not that I can fly, it's just because it has the best view.
*GAB* Jenny Tools - I was hoping to go for a mass meet up, not mass suicide.
Alright folks, hope you don't mind a freight plane.  Indie, you can ride on top, see the sights.

As some users will remember, the "Answerbank Convention" in Glasgow was strictly unofficial.

Once again, let me stress from the outset that any offsite meeting of users of this site would not be endorsed or supported by TheAnswerbank.

As always when discussing the idea of meeting online acquaintances in real life, remember to be safe: let someone know where you are going and who you are meeting, and make sure it is in a public place.

Please please please tell me what GAB means! I feel left out! And rfol for that matter..
