What is going on with links, html etc on this site now? First the html system was removed, putting an end to the "click here" approach. Then that was replaced by the original AnswerBank method of blue-coloured clickable links for a day or two. Now, it seems that's not working either! Please talk to us, AB Ed! Or is it just me? Or my computer?

yup, I just tried it and you are right (not that I doubted you of course)

Hi you two!

Links don't work on my computer either, but Indie has said the ones  I post work on his. Confused - you bet I am!!

Help us please Dear Ed - we are lost souls without our links!!

Hi QM & all! Feel better knowing I'm not alone with this.

Also like to know what &nb sp is - or am I really being thick now?

the "   " is html : it's something like "non-breaking space" and is often used in place of leaving something completely empty. If you have a table with 4 cells and info in only 3 of them it can be used for the empty one. Also, if you have a few words that you're desperate to fit all on one line then you can put that code (rather than keyboard spaces) between the words and as it's *non-breaking*, those words always appear on one line.
The new text editor thingy doesn't even appear at all in Mozilla's Firefox browser. No matter what I've typed, it has appeared as one long continuous string of words. No paragraphs, no colours/bold or even links. Much worse than before AB Ed!
its bloody frustrating, quizmonster.can we get this problem fixed ED please?

Google

Write the URL, hit Enter so it automagically makes a link out of it, and then go back, select the whole link and re-write it as the text you want.

I don't know what was wrong with the old html, liked it more.

Hmm. Have to stick to single word hyperlinks, unless you could write url, select text, highlight url & paste text, but I don't want to make a fool of myself trying.

Let's see if I've got this, then ...

swuklink: Bronze Age Britain

No. Let's try again...

You said.."Write the URL, hit Enter so it automagically makes a link out of it, and then go back, select the whole link and re-write it as the text you want."

Here is an URL Bronze

Does this woykk?

Nope!

The URL I used was http://www.swuklink.com/BAAAGBQV.php

But it got transmogrified into http://www.swuklink.com%20/BAAAGBQV.php and did not work.

Pooh!

My links have just started to work QM and that was by sheer accident.

I hit Enter and as if by magic whoosh! just as tomd says, they changed to blue and the little hand appeared.

Mind you it probably wont last - still, it's a start, isn't it?

The first problem is, Cetti, that I've had blue URLs appearing, but clicking on them achieves nothing other than the "page unavailable" screen.

< P>The second problem - as we see right here in this thread - is that what we have is a situation where users are trying to help each other, whereas what we actually need is for the AB Ed or one of the technical staff to tell us what they've done - and why - and how we are expected to cope with it.

Pe rsonally, I think a new title such as "Instructions" should be added to the 'Categories' list...one which we users may refer to but have no input into. There, the powers that be could tell us about changes and newcomers would be told all the tricks of how to use the site.

One of the problems is that the WYSIWYG editor seems to be randomly inserting spaces into hyperlinks (and other HTML code) - I don't know whether this is some kind of security feature, but it is jolly annoying!

I do like that idea QM - another heading thus:

Instructions for the Terminally Bewildered

Love the heading Cetti!!
This is being looked at, folks. Thanks for your patience.
