Normally Adblock for Firefox keeps most of those pesky adverts away.

Ed will be pleased to know that loads are getting through now, but I'm not!

Anyone got any suggestions what I can do to beef up my advert defences?

Jno...If as Hopkirk has said that every click puts pennies into AB's pockets then we should all do more clicking. If we click adverts which could be of interest to us then there is always the possibility that some of us will make a purchase. I would have yesterday, if British Gas had offered me a better deal for my Insurance of Domestic Plumbing.

Perhaps the Ed should now make a comment in order to clarify matters.

Best wishes ...Ron.

Actually, my fear over clicking on adverts is that I will get cookies on my computer that I don't want, and more adverts directed at me.

Perhaps I'm just paranoid.
Never thought about it that way...I wouldn't say you are paranoid....cautious perhaps, and have made me have further thoughts about the adverts.

Ron
Call me paranoid but after looking at a thread on Body and Soul about Boots I got a load of medical ads.
Hi emeraldblue.......I am continuing to find this thread very very interesting, and feel sure that Hopkirk will not object if I put a few question to you.

In what form were you bombarded with advertising material.? Was it by way of 'spam' e/mails or some other format into your computer.?

The reason I ask is that if it were by e/mails and you had not disclosed your address then your click from AB must have given the Advertiser information which is personal to you. Or perhaps a cookie was inserted into your computer to steal such information.

In my opinion there is now a definite case for the Ed to comment; bearing in mind that the section in which Hopkirk posted is viewed by Editorial staff.

Ron.
