About time some long-term regulars were offered modship so they could login and ban the idiots, and delete the crap that keeps appearing.
Restrict new members posts to 3 per day for the first 2 weeks.
I'm sick of us having to ummm and aghhh over the same potential solutions, we've been doing that for 6 years now and nothing changes! I don't want to leave AB and there is nothing else like it but there is no control. If long term users and computer geniuses can't come up with an acceptable solution we have to look to the ed I guess, again.
I still like the idea of mods being able to knock abusive threads off the site straight away - however that does very much depend on any mods being around, they might all have been out doing their Christmas shopping today.
I can only agree with the sentiments of other Abers, this was truly disgusting, and shoud not have been allowed to continue for as long as it did, not fair at all to all the decent and loyal users on here!........it must be addressed ASAP!...............
The last thing we want is a closedown. But the site definitely needs something.
For a long time now, Chatterbank has regularly been assaulted at weekends. Weirdos were winkled out and despatched pretty damn quick along with their abusive posts by either Spare Ed or the lady Weekend Ed. However there is now a tendency to use supposed impartial moderators to keep an eye on posts and mop up during the weekends. Clearly this is not being totally successful. From a personal angle I notice one of my close friends has been suspended although their posts remain and show no signs of abuse to anyone.
I don't understand what a moderator does on AB, if they can't remove a post or a poster, what is the difference between the way I am able to make a new users account go into suspension just by one report and the way they suspend them?
sir p, innocent parties have occasionally found themselves suspended by accident (it's happened to me and many others) - not necessarily incompetence or malevolence, just a g-nome tripping over its shoelaces. If innocent, your friend will probably be set free in the morning. It's just one of those things.
