My son is gallantly trying to work his way through it but I think I've left it too late to start, even though I'm quite a fast reader. Have already read some of them anyway! www.theguardian.com/books/series/1000novels
For as long as i can recall, i've always loved books. Like many of you on here, i read the usual books as a child, Famous Five and Secret Seven spring immediately to mind, but the one which really captured my young imagination was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Fascinated by this 'other world' i then read The Lord Of The Rings, the 'Alice' books and any other 'fantasy' novels i could get my hands on. No surprise, then, that my favourite author nowadays is Stephen King - particular his 7 book Dark Tower series which are my prized possessions. (I know he has added another book to the collection, The Wind Through the Keyhole and i have yet to read it. I keep putting it off, however, as it is set between books 4 & 5 and as such, doesn't move the story forward.)
