I have just finished read E F Benson's Mapp and Lucia. I have had the book up on my shelves for years but watching the wonderful BBC production shown over Xmas persuaded me to take it down and read.

I am so glad I did ! An utter delight, from start to finish. There are 6 books altogether in the series, so I have ordered an omnibus edition from ebay.
I can't recommend these books highly enough !

I have them all on my shelves and go back to them when I need cheering up.
They are indeed an utter delight and for a real treat you must get a video of the first TV series made. I think it just pipped the later one.

Ladybirder...Actually I have just ordered the new BBC one this morning, on ebay ! Also, I have just found that the earlier one is available, for free, on you tube !

So there is my viewing sorted out for the next few days !

By the way, have you ever been to Rye ? I have only been for a few hours, about 10 years ago, but would love to go back. Perhaps Willy and I will rent a small cottage for a week or so next year.
Driven through it Mikey but not spent any time there but as I'm not that far away it's something I may just decide to do one day.
I'd be interested to know which series you like the best. I definitely preferred Prunella Scales' Miss Mapp, Geraldine McEwan's Lucia and the wonderful Nigel Hawthorne as Georgie. But having said that the latest one was still very good.
I have recently been reading them on my Kindle.
Hugely enjoyable. I am now looking out for more of them.

Au Reservoir..... :o)

And a "Au Reservoir" to you as well Jack !

I have been using that phrase quite a bit these last few weeks, and I keep getting quizzical looks !
Question Author
Ladybirder...I will watch both and give you my verdict. I expect I will have difficulty in making a choice about which was best though. In the latest one, I thought Steve Pemberton was so funny !

And he adapted the book as well !
Yeah? That good?

On your recommendations then I've downloaded them. They better be as good as you say or I'll be demanding my 99p back from you guys ;-)
Question Author
99p ? What...to a Kindle ? Good value !
Yeah, 99p for the complete series :-)
Hope you know how much that stung by the way- I usually only download free ones!
Question Author
What....all 6 books ! ?

Ruddy hell !
I was in Rye last year but we couldn't get into Lamb House (it's owned by the National Trust) because of the filming.
Question Author
I never thought that my little thread, in the rarely-ventured "Books and Authors" would get such a response !
Thanks for the thread mikey I'm going to download them to the Kindle :o)
I've just downloaded them for 99p. Thanks B00 and Mikey :-)
Question Author
Only too happy to oblige guys...happy reading !
Oh and thanks to B00 as well x
You should get yourself a Kindle, Mikey, great bit of kit. You can swipe type which is really easy once you're used to it.

I have the Kindle Fire. It's a book reader and a standard tablet. My OH calls it his girlfriend.

While we are on the subject, can I also recommend all the P G Wodehouse books ? I have now read almost all of them, and as soon as I am finished with E F Benson, I shall be re-reading the Blandings ones....so funny that I laugh out loud !
